Irani community: Police trying to shield culprits

The Iranis, displaced from the Aman Colony of the State capital following clashes with the locals alleged that police under political pressure are trying to save those who were leading the mob that ransacked, put to flames their houses and injured men, women and cattle.

Pawan Tiwari, representative of the community, addressing media personnel at the Irani camp of old city said, “The apathy of the Government and administration could be judged from the fact that over 200 families displaced from Aman Colony are lying under the open sky in this cold weather since December 10 but neither any aid has been provided nor does any Government official or minister has bothered to take care of us.”

Tiwari accompanied by Irani elders and youth said that no one from the Government and administration has come forward even to console us. This is the State capital where all the Ministers and even CM sits. The incident took place when the Assembly session was going on, still neither the Chief Minister bothered to take stock of the situation nor does any help was provided to us from his Government, he added.

He said that we demand adequate compensation, rehabilitation and safety from the State Government and if the demands are not met, then we would stage demonstration in national capital and would knock the court’s door to seek justice. He said that the police are under tremendous political pressure and that is why those who were leading the mob that torched our houses, injured our women, children and did not even spared cattle are roaming free while innocent people are arrested.

If the culprits are not arrested we would raise the issue with the Human Rights Commission, Woman Commission and Child Commission to get justice, he added. later a delegation of the community called on the Bhopal Collector and handed over a memorandum addressed to President of India seeking justice.
