Information boards in Braille script have been installed at Bhopal, Itarsi and Guna railway stations of Bhopal Railway Division for the convenience of visually impaired passengers.
Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Bandopadhyay said that the Bhopal Divisional Railway Administration is always in the forefront and striving to implement new innovative ideas in the direction of improving facilities and services for its railway passengers, especially 'Divyangjan'.
While working in this direction, facilities are being improved at major stations of Bhopal division Bhopal, Itarsi, Guna to make travel easier for visually challenged passengers.
This includes Braille common signs at main entrances, platforms, FOBs and railings to identify platform numbers and other facilities, reflective strips on stairs, Braille maps of stations, Braille information booklets at inquiry counters, station information in sign language QR code for watching videos, portable ramp and wheelchair facility has been made available for boarding Divyang coach.
These facilities help visually impaired people, wheelchair users and hearing impaired people to travel independently and with dignity by reducing their dependence on others during travel.
Platform Indicators and Common Indicators with Braille at Bhopal Railway Station to empower visually impaired persons with ease and with minimum external assistance, Braille Indicators including Platform Indicators, Way to Lift Signs, Ticket Counter Signs and other Guiding Signs.General signage covering all major offices including waiting rooms, lifts, water and toilets. Two Braille maps have been installed near booking offices at two main entrances to provide visual, auditory access to the public.
Installation of Braille signs for platforms is reducing the dependency of visually impaired passengers in finding the right platform and facilities. Simple signs in Braille are helping visually impaired people to identify essential facilities like male and female toilets, male and female waiting rooms, disabled toilets, clock rooms.
