Infant refused admission in Hamidia

Four-month-old Meningomyelocele patient is suffering due to apathy of Kamla Nehru hospital administration. Even a week after the patient arrived at the hospital, had not been admitted; in the meantime the sac on the patient’s back had increased twice in size.

Mahendra Singh, a casual labourer and father of four-month-old Taman, said that “On discovering the sac on Taman’s back we brought him to Hamidia hospital but after the initial check –up doctor asked us to come after two months for operation. Even when the sac was increasing with alarming speed doctors refused to admit Taman in hospital and asked us to leave.”

Singh further said that “We are residing in hospital premises as we can not afford to go back to our hometown and return for treatment. But even after waiting for seven days the hospital administration did not admit the child.”

In meningomyelocele a patient has risk of getting partially or fully paralyzed if not get treatment on time but still the Kamla Nehru hospital doctor asked them to return after two months for operation.

It is not the first time when poor patients have to face the apathy of hospital administration on several occasions patients have lost their life due to lack of treatment on time.

GMC Pediatrics department Head of the department Dr KS Budhwani said that even if the patient would have been admitted earlier then also it would have not made any major difference. If a meningomyelocele patient is operated on the very first day then also life expectancy is less as the child will always suffer from partial paralysis and will not have control over excretion. Parents get children operated but then suffer so it is better now that parents should analyze the situation.

When ‘The Pioneer’ intervened in the matter on Tuesday, Gandhi Medical College acting Dean Dr Bhanu Dubey himself went and ensured that the child is admitted in the hospital late Tuesday evening. On this occasion Dr KS Budhwani was also present.
