Indore's traffic improvement drive gains momentum

A continuous campaign is being run to improve traffic management in Indore city. To accelerate and enhance its effectiveness, a District Road Safety Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Collector Ashish Singh, where several key decisions were taken to ensure smooth and well-organized traffic flow.

During the meeting, it was decided that strict action would be taken against passenger buses that park haphazardly or pick up passengers from unauthorized locations. Along with issuing challans, errant buses will also be seized. To enforce this, a joint campaign will be launched by the District Administration, Traffic Police, Municipal Corporation, and Transport Department. Additionally, it was mandated that dividers and speed breakers cannot be constructed anywhere in the city without prior approval from the Road Safety Committee.

The meeting, held at the Collector’s office, was attended by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shivam Verma, DCP Traffic Arvind Tiwari, Additional Collector Roshan Rai, and officers from related departments. A detailed discussion was held on strategies to streamline city traffic. Proper parking spaces will be allocated for passenger buses operating from Sarvate and Gangwal bus stands to reduce congestion. In light of ongoing construction, the flyover’s length at Dewas Naka will be extended by modifying its design to ensure smoother traffic flow. The traffic diversion plan for National Highway 52 (MR-10 junction) was approved to facilitate uninterrupted movement. Systematic left-turn arrangements will be implemented at Industries House, Geeta Bhawan Chauraha, and GPO Chauraha. Immediate removal of obstructions at Rajiv Gandhi Chauraha and Choithram Chauraha was ordered, with constant monitoring to ensure that encroachments do not reappear.

Instructions were issued to activate the bypass street lights soon and repair damaged chambers at Chandragupta Chauraha, which have been obstructing traffic. Though metro construction work has been completed at Chandragupta Chauraha, barricades have not been removed, causing inconvenience. The Collector directed their immediate removal. A proposal to increase the width of the bridge near Dhobighat, between Industries House intersection and Janjir Wala intersection, was also discussed.

Collector Ashish Singh reaffirmed that the traffic improvement campaign will continue with increased effectiveness.

He emphasized the need for constant monitoring of areas where encroachments and obstacles are being removed to prevent their reoccurrence. He also instructed Municipal Corporation officials to expedite sewer line work to minimize disruptions. With these decisive measures, the administration aims to enhance road safety and traffic efficiency, ensuring a seamless commuting experience for the citizens of Indore.
