The commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh which of late has emerged as the medical hub of the central India because of its quality health services, will in all likelihood have facilities of liver and heart transplants by December this year. Efforts in this regard are underway, informed Indore divisional commissioner Sanjay Dube while addressing a review meeting of the Indore Society for Organ Donations here today. He said Indore already have facilities for kidney and eyes transplantation. The number of eye donors in the city has outstripped number of people requiring eye transplantation. As a result of this eyes received through donations are being sent to Satna district for transplantation., commissioner said adding that awareness of people towards organ donations in the city has grown tremendously, thanks to awareness campaign of the Indore Society for Organ Donation.
He said awareness of people towards organ donations is reflected from the fact that in the past one year, a total of nine green corridors were created in the city by the Indore Society for Organ Donation for organ transplantation.
Ahead of the World Organ Donation Day which falls on August 13, Dube while describing organ donations as one of the noblest humanitarian deeds, said vital organs of any brain dead person like eyes, kidneys, heart, livers, skin and bones can be donated with the concurrence of family members of the deceased. However, compared to requirements, there are lesser number of organ donations. He said currently every year the country requires 1.50 lakh kidney transplantation, 50,000 liver transplantation and 10,000 heart transplant ion which far exceed people willing to donate their organs. He said it was high time people in the society come forward and associate themselves towards organ awareness campaign. IDA chairman Shankar lalwani said Indore Authority will take out tableaux of organ donations on Anant Chaturdashi.
