Consul-General of Singapore Ajeet Singh said that 10 per cent of the total population of Singapore is of Indian origin. He said this while addressing the gathering at a programme at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he informed that Deputy PM, law Minister, Governor of Reserve Bank and Chief of Army staff  are of Indian origin. Ambassadors to six different countries are also Indians. Indians are holding senior positions in telecom, banking and tourism sectors of Singapore, he added.

He said that the professionals from India give priority to Singapore for jobs and business. Educational institutions of Singapore are willing to work in collaboration with Indian academic institutions to start joint academic courses but the investment of capital, quality of syllabus and rankings of Indian academic institutions are the major obstacles in this process. Singh appreciated the efforts of the university for offering a wide spectrum of courses in the fields of journalism, communication, media study, media management, graphics and animation and IT.

Vice-Chancellor of the university BK Kuthiala informed that the university administration is looking forward to organise joint academic conferences, seminars in the field of gaming, animation, and IT sectors with academic institutions of Singapore.
