Indian Institute of Architects, Bhopal Centre, has initiated ‘CIRCLE’, a series of events to acquire knowledge and understand different contemporary, sustainable methods and techniques of designing spaces from various zones around the country. In this series, the first event happened at Marriott, Bhopal and witnessed Biju Kuriakose from south zone, the cofounder of Chennai-based architect firm ‘acrhitectureRED’, as the keynote speaker.
The event commenced with the welcome note by Vinay Shrivastava, chairman IIA Bhopal, where he welcomed everyone and showed his gratitude to the architects who are working towards the development. He also talked about showcasing the public how an architect works.
The keynote speaker, Biju Kuriakose, has talked about the topic “Object and the City-The Negotiations”.
He said that the negotiations are not just with the client but also with the work environment. His topic was based on the socio-economic-political concepts that are required to be worked upon in the field of construction. He said that it is time to work on the social sustainability, ie where we, the architects, should see the needs beyond the units and spaces. Elaborating his topic, he said that the relationship with the cities is lost nowadays. So, it is time when the construction is not just to be done for the sake of market but to cater to the social responsibility to link people with the cities and feel like home.
During his speech, he discussed the design restrictions and solutions based on various local parameters. Talking about how this could be done or can it be taught in the colleges, he said that all this is to be learned with time and the architects have to see what all could be done based on the work environment.
This entire event comprised 5 different sets of activities followed by one another. The primary 4 activities portray the cardinal directions North, East, West and South and included one keynote speaker from the different zones of the country. The last event will be the panel discussion which will comprise all the four architects of each event altogether.
Amongst the eminent guests present were Vinay Shrivastava-Chairman, IIA Bhopal, Amog Gupta-Director SPA, Navneet Pandey-IIA, Managing Committee member and others. Akshay Selukar-the man behind the event, through a presentation shared the details about the event. The Event is done in the collaboration with the Jaguar Group.
