To commemorate World Environment Day 2025, the Impact4Nutrition (I4N) Madhya Pradesh Secretariat, in collaboration with India Post, organized plantation drives at two locations in Bhopal: the India Post R.S. Nagar Sub Office and Dak Bhawan. These green initiatives not only symbolized environmental action but also emphasized the crucial link between a healthy planet and healthy people. Environmental sustainability is vital for food security and nutrition, especially for vulnerable communities, as clean air, fertile soil, biodiversity, and safe water sources are essential for growing nutrient-rich food and sustaining healthy diets.
The plantation drive at R.S. Nagar Sub Office was attended by Pawan Kumar Dalmia, Director of Postal Services, Bhopal, who addressed the staff, postmen, and postwomen. He stressed the importance of adopting eco-conscious lifestyles, introducing the concept of a fourth "R"—Refuse—to complement the traditional principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. "By refusing to partake in activities and behaviors that endanger nature, we strengthen our commitment to sustainable living," he said. JS Rajput, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Bhopal Division, also participated in the initiative, further emphasizing India Post’s dedication to embedding sustainability into its operations. Anil Gulati, Chief of Field Office (a.i.) at UNICEF Madhya Pradesh, delivered a keynote address, urging the importance of conscious environmental actions, including simple practices like carrying saplings while traveling to suitable planting locations.
The event also featured Pradeep Karambelkar, Executive Director of BNI Bhopal, who praised India Post’s leadership in advancing the green cause. Notable attendees included Er. Arvind Srivastava, a cycling enthusiast, and Sarang Mahatre, a social worker. The event culminated with the inauguration of a compost-bin within the R.S. Nagar Sub Office campus, further promoting sustainability.
At Dak Bhawan, the Chief Postmaster General of M.P. Circle, Vineet Mathur, inaugurated Sandesh Vatika, a thoughtfully designed green space within the office campus that embodies the message of sustainability. He planted a sapling to mark the occasion and later highlighted the significance of World Environment Day, emphasizing that every individual has a role to play in restoring balance with nature. He shared various ways in which everyday practices can support the broader goals of environmental and nutritional resilience.
The events concluded with Mathur and Dalmia signing the Impact4Nutrition Pledge on behalf of India Post, committing to the goals of environmental protection and improved nutrition outcomes in Madhya Pradesh. As part of the initiative, Ravi Kumar Sahu, Postmaster HSG-I, was appointed as the Nutrition Ambassador for the R.S. Nagar Sub Office, marking the beginning of a grassroots nutrition awareness campaign within India Post. Sahu was recognized for his dedication to planning and executing the plantation drive, with Dalmia acknowledging his exceptional efforts in driving meaningful environmental action.
