The anti encroachment squad of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) here on Wednesday removed encroachments from Nandlalpura main road amid presence of senior officials of the corporation and police department and jawans.
Following repeated complaints, the market department of the IMC had warned fruit vendors putting up their stalls on Nandlalpura main road to shift to nearby Jyotiba Phule fruit market as their stalls were causing inconveniences to the commuters passing through the area. However, notwithstanding the IMC’s missive and reminders, the fruit vendors of Nandlalpura continue with their business.
Subsequently, the anti encroachment squad of the IMC led by Bharat Singh Chouhan reached Nandlalpura fruit market at 9 am with a view to remove fruit vendors’ encroachments from the roadside, to pave way for the smooth traffic on the road.
Apparently, realizing that fruit vendors had patronage of political leaders, the IMC squad before taking up the removal works, waited for the police force and other senior IMC officials till 10.30 am and it was only after arrival of police force that the IMC squad started their exercise to remove encroachments from the road. While some vendors agreed to remove encroachments on their own, a section of the fruit vendors protest the IMC’ move on the plea that they be given minimum space to carry out their business from the road side as the Jyotiba fruit market earmarked for them, was a complete failure in terms of business point of view.
Expressing their protest over removal a delegation of fruit vendors met Mayor Krishna Murari Moghe apprising him of their woes.Taking a due cognizance of their pleas, the Mayor agreed to provide fruit vendors a space of 2 feet width out of a footpath space of 6 feet and asked them to evacuate encroachments from the remaining area for the convenience of the commuters.
