On the instructions of Indore collector Manish Singh, assistant excise commissioner Indore Raj Narayan Soni carried out a yearlong drive to catch liquor smugglers in Indore district and acted tough on the liquor smugglers and busted many hideouts of illegal liquor storage and confiscated liquor around Rs2.30 crore and vehicles including two and four wheelers worth Rs1.55 crore in the financial year 2020-2021.
According to excise data available for the year 2020-2021 for Indore district, a total 7054 cases were registered under excise act in which 5199 people were sent to jail. Total 14374 bulk liters of country made liquor and 2412 bulk liters of foreign liquor 14294 bulk liter hand made liquor 1 lakh 3 thousand kg mahua lahan 139 kg bhaang was confiscated.
Besides this 5 dhabas which were involved in selling illegal liquor and storing smuggled liquor were permanently demolished by the joint operation of Indore excise department Indore municipal corporation Indore revenue department and Indore police. Besides these 5 bars and pubs have been permanently closed for irregularity and show cause notices and fines were issued to various bars and pubs of Indore district.
