IIM Indore students check kids' health

Published on:

Decades have passed since India attained freedom and in these numerous decades our country has defined new realms of success in every field but the problem of malnutrition and improper installation of health facilities is still a threat to its pace of development. According to a report, nearly 43 per cent  of the children under the age of 5 years are underweight and approximately, 19.3 per cent  of them are suffering from malnutrition in 2013.

As a small attempt to fight this, Pragat-I, Social Sensitivity cell of IIM Indore students organised a medical health camp in Government Primary School, Nawada on  March 4. IIM Indore’s Rekha with her team assisted Pragat-I in this effort. With focus on early detection of deficiencies and diagnosis of general health of children, Pragat-I distributed calcium, iron and vitamin tablets among the children after a thorough health check-up from the medical team.

The check-up also included eye test for the children. The event saw an enthusiastic response with an active participation of 55 students. The support from the school staff was very commendable and IIM Indore seeks such contribution from other schools and institutions for the success of these initiatives.

Started in 2013, the school adoption programme of IIM Indore will complete two years in October 2015. IIM Indore has chalked out plans to conduct this type of health camp throughout the year in these schools.  To further track the improvements in health and education level of children in these schools, IIM Indore is planning to use data and social analytics tools.
