IAS officer surrenders

Sacked Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Tinoo Joshi, who is facing charges of amassing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, surrendered before a local court on Thursday. Tinoo’s surrender comes in the wake of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (MPHC) rejecting her plea for a regular bail or extending the interim bail period on medical grounds on Tuesday and directing her to surrender. She surrendered before Sessions Judge DP Mishra’s court. Tinoo was given interim bail for three months earlier for treatment and surgery. However, she jumped the interim bail period instead of surrendering before the court on time. She did not undergo surgery during the interim bail period. Joshi had moved a fresh application before high court seeking extension of her bail period for her surgery. The plea was also dismissed on Tuesday.

Income Tax sleuths had raided the residence of Tinoo and her IAS husband Arvind Joshi in 2010 and recovered Rs3 crore. After the Income Tax raids, lokayukta booked the couple for corruption in the same year. The duo was terminated from service on July 2014. A special court had issued an arrest warrant against Tinoo in August 2014. She had sought an anticipatory bail from the High Court, but her plea was rejected. She then moved the Supreme Court and secured three months time to surrender. She surrendered before court in wheel chair on January 13 this year from where she was sent to judicial custody. She was then granted an interim bail by the High Court for medical reasons.
