IAS body seeks action against I-T officers

Madhya Pradesh IAS Officers Association has demanded strict action against the Income Tax officials involved in the raid conducted at the residence of the then Home Secretary Rajesh Rajora with mala fide intention in May, 2008.

In a letter to Ajit Kumar Seth, Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, New Delhi, Association president Aruna Sharma stated that with the High Court order of June 27, 2012, it has been clear that the raid was conducted without any sufficient ground or material but for reasons not mentioned in the relevant statute.

If individuals vested with legal powers of search and seizure, start acting with mala fide intention to achieve personal gains, then it not only defeats the objectives of legislation that vests such powers in those individuals but it also promotes corruption in governance thereby affecting the public delivery system at large adversely. Such acts also have the tendency to malign the image of the service in general, she added.

“The Association, therefore, requests that strictest action should be taken against the erring individuals in order to maintain the sanctity of the powers so vested in the individuals and to discourage such mala fide actions in future by such empowered individuals for their personal gains,” Sharma stated in the letter. Through the letter, Sharma also sought time to meet the Cabinet Secretary, so that the office-bearers of the Association could meet him and explain the adverse impact of such mala fide actions on the general work culture in the State and the country.
