In yet another twist in Namrata Damor mysterious death case, her father Mehtab Singh has recorded his statement with CBI alleging that Sanyogitaganj police station, Indore, where he had lodged a missing person’s complaint in January 2012 - has enclosed his bogus statement. His statement was recorded by the agency at Bhopal on Friday.

“I was stunned when CBI told me that Sanyogitaganj police have given a copy of my statement to them. They showed me the document also. It was then that I told them it was a fake one. I never gave my statement to them,” Mehtab Singh said.

Mehtab Singh and his younger son Omprakash’s statements were recorded at Bhopal. “We have been told that a team would visit our house for further investigations,” said Mehtab Singh. Damor case is being reopened for reinvestigation following the controversial death of television journalist Akshay Singh.

CBI had, on July 18, registered a murder case in connection with the death of Namrata Damor, a student of Indore’s Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, who was found dead near railway tracks in Ujjain in January 2012 after her name figured in Vyapam scam.

While the Madhya Pradesh police had maintained that 19-year-old Damor, who was found dead in January, 2012, was suffering from depression and had committed suicide, two sets of doctors gave different opinions about her death, raising suspicion.

Damor, whose name figured in the Vyapam scam, was a student in the second year of college, she went missing after the college declared its results on 7 January, 2012. The police had found an unidentified, mutilated body along the railways tracks in Ujjain on the same day that she had gone missing. There were posters of her distributed but after no one claimed her body, it was cremated after an autopsy. Her brother saw one of the posters and identified her, after which her body was exhumed.
