'Hunger for power made Cong ignore Gandhi's advice'

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur in a statement said here on Saturday that Congress had turned down Gandhi’s advice only because of its “hunger for power.”

Gaur said, “hunger for power” prevented the Congress from heeding to Mahatma Gandhi’s advice to disband itself after Independence. In a statement here, Gaur, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and also former Chief Minister of State also objected to Congress invoking former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee to target Narendra Modi.Gaur said it was ironic that the Congress which didn’t pay heed to Gandhiji’s advice to dissolve itself, was now using Vajpayee’s ‘Rajdharma’ remarks post 2002 riots to target the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.

The country’s oldest party has become “communal and anti-people” and it was on the verge of extinction, the BJP leader claimed. Gaur alleged the Congress was attempting to vilify Modi by taking the shield of Atal Bihari Vajapyee.

“Prior to the Godhra carnage, several riots occurred in Gujarat under the Congress rule but the accused never got punished. The Congress has failed to ensure that the guilty were brought to book,” he was quoted as saying. On the other hand, Modi not only controlled the 2002 Gujarat riots but also ensured punishment to the guilty.Similarly, in 1984 anti-Sikh riots in which over 3,000 innocent Sikhs were hacked to death the Congress Government has failed to get conviction for a single person involved in the riots. There are hundreds of such examples of riots in the country after the Independence, he added.

He said that the Congress should have disbanded the party following Mahatma’s advice, now Modi following Mahatma’s advice is out to disband the grand old party from the country. The Congress does not have any right to take the name of either Gandhi or Vajpayee because the Congress of today is communal and anti-people, he added.
