HRC makes recommendations on safe delivery after Sagar hospital incident

Published on:

The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has made several recommendations following an incident in which a woman had delivered baby on the stretcher due to the ignorance and insensitivity of the Sagar district hospital and Bundelkhand medical college.

The woman, Ranu, had delivered a baby on the stretcher in the Sagar district hospital due to the negligence of the doctors.

The Commission has stated in its recommendation that action should be taken against the responsible doctors.

The Commission recommended that the compensation of Rs 5 lakh should be provided to the procreative Ranu under section 18 a (1) of the Human Rights Preservation Act, 1993 as she had suffered mentally and physically due to the incident.

Commission has stated that enough officers and specialists should remain present in all the hospitals while the vacant posts should also be filled. Strict action should be taken in the line to check the condition of mismanagement of the hospitals.

Commission thinks that the behavior of the doctors should be changed as they do not show sympathy towards the patients. Chief Medical and Health Officers (CMHO), civil surgeons and superintendent should be made responsible for the treatment of the patients so that the patients could get proper treatment.

Commission has found that there was the lack of coordination, dialogue and sympathy in the incident. The doctors have violated the rules of the Indian Medical Council (Professional conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002.    Meanwhile, Commission has taken cognizance over the incidence of death of a woman after the sterilization in the Bhind district. Commission has sought detailed report from the Bhind’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) within seven days. Mukesh Jatav’s wife Mithilesh died after the sterilization operation in the district hospital.
