The festival of colours is helping the political parties in campaigning for the upcoming lok Sabha elections.

The parties are ready with packaged water-guns to keep the camps busy. Notably, as the fever of election soars in the country, the city markets are flooded with the Holi accessories named after the popular leaders. On one hand, Pichkaris with photo stickers of Narendra Modi is attracting the buyers, on the other hand pichkaris with Arvind Kejriwal pictures are not left behind. Notably, the supporters of the political parties have found a new way to celebrate this festive season by arming themselves with pichkaris to take on each other.

The city market streets like Jumerati and Chowk Bazaar are flooded with pichkaris having photo of Modi on one side and the logo of BJP on other side. Similar is the case with Arvind Kejriwal’s pichkaris. The Pioneer had a talk with the shopkeepers and the customers selling and buying pichkaris interestingly the consumers are buying these pichkaris with enthusiasm.

Munna, a shopkeeper selling holi colours and pichkaris said, “People are buying these pichkaris so interestingly that it has increased the sale at my stall. Notably, the people are buying Modi’s pichkaris more from my shop.” These pichkaris are designed beautifully and are available in various striking colours. The rate of these pichkaris starts from Rs100.

Another shopkeeper, Sohan said, “It seems that everybody wants to buy these pichkaris as they are in much demand. Basically, youngsters are crowding up at the stalls to buy these pichkaris with a lot of enthusiasm.”

Interestingly, some shopkeepers at the old city markets are also giving offers to the buyers. They are attracting more crowds with the offers like buy and get one for free or get two gulaal packets for free.

Pichkaris are available in innovative and modern designs for the children. The pichkaris come up every year to lure the children who wish to collect them as Holi memorabilia and of course, to drench everybody in the town. In earlier years, manufacturers had come up with pichkaris in the shape of cartoon characters like Mickey and Donald or even Doremon but this year they decided to test political waters of a kind.

This is like a colourful opportunity for the political parties to carry out a strong campaign in the streets of the city. The youngsters as well as the other citizens are flocking up in the markets to buy these pichkaris. So, this Holi the pichkaris named after the political leaders are selling like the hot cakes in the markets and the buyers are much enthusiastic to play ‘rang’ with them on the D-day.
