The clear picture of generation gap and current scenario of nuclear families was brilliantly and sarcastically showcased through a play ‘Welcome Zindagi’. The play was staged at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium in Bhopal on Tuesday.
The Hindi play was about the real and ordinary people. Showcasing a middle class family and the differences in each person’s thinking was all about Welcome Zindagi.
Directed by Suresh Bharadwaj, the play is written by Saumya Joshi. Originally, Welcome Zindagi is a Gujarati play.
The play delves into the myriad emotions of a family. The play is a mirror to the current society and in some way or the other is connected with each person’s life. The Bhopal theatre buffs were enthralled to watch the play.
The play is set in a two room flat in the heart of Mumbai city. The flat is inhabited by a family of three — father; Arun Ganatra, Mother; Bhanu Ganatra and Son; Vivek Ganatra.
The central conflict in the play arises out of the lack of communication between the father and the son.
The father, head clerk in Gandhi Associate and is on the verge of retirement and the son is young and is all set for a bright career.
The conflict is not just a simple generation conflict; it is a conflict between middle class reality and an upper class aspiration, between the service class and the business class, between an experienced head clerk and an inexperienced MBA.
The play though dealing with this complex conflict has inherent strong threads of humour.
Bhanu Ganatra, narrates the entire story in a light sarcastic way, the behavioral patterns of both father and son. It is her wisdom and understanding of life that gives the play its humor and depth.
The play was much enjoyed by the theatre lovers of the city.
