The Hindi play ‘Utsarg’ was staged at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum on Friday. The play was staged under the regular theatre series of tribal museum ‘Abhinayan’.

The play is adapted from the Anton Chekhov’s Swan Song, one of the finest short plays in theatre history. Directed by Ramendra Singh, the play was beautifully presented by the artists of Naya Theatre troupe, Bhopal.

The play showcases different aspects of theatre artist.

The play begins with showcasing a theatre house where the show is over. It is past midnight and like a ghost appears on the dark stage an ageing actor, candle in hand, fully attired, sleepy and a little groggy.

The actor playfully and sentimentally retrospects his past in theatre industry and narrates the glimpses of his colourful life and glory of his acting career. This actor’s voice sometimes cracks, he puffs. He is afraid of his mortality and loss of talents.

Yet, while departing he recites Othello’s famous farewell speech Swan Song, Hamlet’s speech, tries to get into the characters of Chandragupt Maurya and lord Ram which proved that still he is the finest and loveable actor.

The audiences enjoyed the play with lot of fervor as the play was more interactive leaving the audience mesmerized.
