A Hindi play, ‘Tamra Patra,’ was staged here on Sunday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan, marking the second day of Alakhnandan Memorable Theatre Festival ‘Alakh Theatre Fest’.
The theatre fest is being organised to pay homage to a renowned theatre director of the city, Alakhnandan Sinha. The fest began here from Saturday and would continue till Monday. Here on second day of the fest a Hindi play Tamra Patra was performed by the artists of Nat Bundele. Directed by Alakhnandan Sinha the play is written by Debashish Majumdar.
The play surrounds the helplessness of the needy class and the exploitation of these people by the elite class and the politicians in power.
The play follows the story of a middle class man Twishampati, and the struggles he faced in his life. As he was unable to cope up with the poverty of his existence he is forced by the local politicians and elite class to act as a freedom fighter. He was given the pension as compared to a freedom fighter. As he transforms himself into a fake freedom fighter he began forming fake bravery stories of the freedom struggle in India. He used to tell these stories to his family and also used to read about the revolutionaries so that he can form stories.
As he began to live with this lie, he realises that he has been taken on more than he was bargained for and people in the power are misusing them. After being called upon by his self conscious and respect he gives up pretending as fake freedom fighter. And from here the reality of the politicians and other elite class people was disclosed before the people.
Alok Chatterjee as Twishampati was outstanding in his performance. He managed to maintain the interest of the audience till the play ends. Perfect story line, plot and matured acting skills added much charm in the play leaving the audience enthralled.
