The play is an adaptation of a Sanskrit play ‘Maltimadhavta’ written by a renowned Sanskrit writer and author Bhavbhuti. The Hindi translation of the play was done by Radha Vallabh Tripathi. Directed by Balendra Singh the play was wonderfully presented by Hum Theatre Group, Bhopal.

While talking to The Pioneer director of the play Balendra Singh said, “many times I thought to stage a Sanskrit play on stage and for this I went through various plays in Sanskrit language. At last I ended up with staging the play Malti Madhav.” The story of this play includes, love, tragedy and drama. He also informed that this is the second show of the play in the city.

The play is a set up of the eighth century which surrounds the romance and love story of Malti and Madhav. The story is set up in the city of Padmavati. Malati is the daughter of the king’s minister while Madhav on the other hand was an ordinary young guy.

They fall in love at the first sight and drew towards each other. But, the king of the State wished Malti to marry a young boy of the kingdom Nandana. But, Malti was in love with Madhav. Both Malti and Madhav drew each other’s portrait to reciprocate their feelings. Malti suspected her father’s intentions and King’s motives regarding her marriage.

There is a sub plot in the play Malti Madhava. On the other hand, it involves the love story of Makaranda and Mandarika. Both of them were Malti and Madhav’s friends. The journey of all the four lovers formed rest of the story. With many incidents and happenings the lover end up happily reunited.

Singh further said that some manipulations are done in the culture and traditions of Sanskrit plays and present the play in a changed form. He further said that this play was very difficult in terms of presentation. He also said “This was a two day event but due to heavy rain we were unable to present the show.”

The audiences were awestruck with the performance of the artists. They were mesmerized as they watched love, tragedy and drama altogether in one play.
