Jealousy gets an individual nowhere, with this positive note Hindi play ‘Jalkukrey’ was staged here on Tuesday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium. It was a part of the two-day Urdu Theatre Festival 2015 that concluded on Tuesday. Written by a noted playwright of the city Rafi Shabbir, the play Jalkukrey was directed by Farrukh Sher Khan.

The artistes of Adaakar Theatre Group gave a splendid performance before the theatre goers. The story revolves around three characters, a house and a cemetery. With a weird backdrop of the concept the play was all about putting an impact over the audience about the weird human nature of jealousy and pride.

Chand Miyan and Acchey Miyan are relatives in-law and their children are settled in Dubai. As the children are living overseas they buy a home on rent for both of them to live peacefully together. Interestingly, the wives of Chand Miyan and Acchey Miyan are dead and both live together at a rented house.

Coping up with different nature traits of each other, Chand Miyan and Acchey Miyan lead a happy life. Chand Miyan is a romantic person and always recites romantic shayaris to keep him happy. On the other hand, Acchey Miyan is an entirely different personality and is a religious person.

The things get difficult for both of them when a lady called Suraiya enters the picture and claims the rented house to be hers. Both the men get confused and the thrill trip begins in the play. The laughter then ensues in the play when both try to convince Suriya for marriage without realising that Suriya is a mystery woman. Another major scenario of the play was that the rented house was situated behind a cemetery about which nobody thought ever.

Rafi Shabbir while talking to The Pioneer said, “I wrote this play after realising various factors prevailing in our society. People are jealous of each other, want to grab other’s property and much more. They do not think about the consequences of hereafter and are busy doing wrong. So in a comic manner the play imparts a message to the audience.”

The audience burst out laughing as the play was beautifully carved with situational comedy. All the characters left a memorable impression over the audiences. The props, backdrop of the play and the poetic dialogues added zest in the presentation.
