A Hindi play ‘Achhe Aadmi’ was staged on the second day of the 7th Srijan Utsav 2013. The play was presented at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Written by Rajesh Joshi, the play was directed by Sarfaraz Hassan. Splendidly performed by the artists of Youngs Theatre, Bhopal, the play tells the story of a couple trapped in the whirl of good and evil present in the society.
The play is about a middle aged man ‘Ujakar’ who is almost 40 years old. He desires to marry a pretty and a beautiful young girl and so till now he remains single. After meeting girls in at least 10 villages, Ujakar’s eye caught a pretty tea vendor ‘Sita’. Sita is a beautiful young girl, who along with her grandmother sells tea at a small tea stall. Ujakar proposes her for marriage and she agrees. Sita, with new dreams and desires moves along with her husband towards her new life. But, on the other hand Ujakar had some different plans. Sita for him was nothing, but a status symbol among his friend and other villagers. He wanted to get attention and appreciation for marrying a beautiful girl.
As the couple reached the village, everyone was astonished to see Sita. On the other hand, zamindars and subedars hold evil intentions about her and even Ujakar never gave Sita the respect and the place of a wife. Somehow, he encourages subedars and zamindars to use the beauty of Sita for their intentions. As the time passed by, Ujakar realises his mistake. What happened next as consequence to the situation formed rest of the story.
While talking to The Pioneer, play director Sarfarz Hassan said, “This play raises question on the society that why every time women are forced to be a victim of men’s evil intentions.”
The artists in the play performed wonderfully and maintained the interest of the people. The audience watched the concluding speech with rapt attention as the characters Ujakar and Sita addressed them. Before the play, Rang Yuvaen Samman was given to Rashid Ansari for acting, Saurabh Anant for direction, Abdullah for set designing and Abhinav Pateria for acting and folk singing.
