It is when the system does not support an honest person, he has to bear the consequences. This is what was showcased in the Hindi play ‘Acharya’.
The Play was performed here on Thursday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium leaving the theatre buffs enthralled. The play was directed by Dinesh Nair and was brilliantly performed by the artists of Rang Madhyam theatre troupe. Besides, the play is written by Indira Dangi.
The play highlights about various phases of society and system. The play surrounds the life of Vidur Das who is the editor of one of the prestigious magazine ‘Kaljayi Shikar’. Vidur Das is an honest man who works righteously. He works for the magazine with all the dedication and hardwork.
On the other hand, the play introduces another character who is equally corrupted as much as Vidur Das is honest. Now this magazine Kaljayi Shikhar releases its special edition every year wherein it gives opportunity to the budding writers to write on various issues.
At this time, another character Roshni enters the scene. She is the secratry of Vidur and a budding writer. Where on one hand Vidur wants to give wings to good writers, on the other hand Suryadev just want please his government contacts.
Here adding a punch of creativity and the real life situation of good writers, director Dinesh Nair places Bonsai at the background of the stage craft. This symbolizes that people does not grow to be a huge tree as the corrupt system often cuts their roots.
Adding the dramatical irony in the play, finally Vidur and Roshni leave their jobs .
