language is the symbol of our rich cultural heritage. When Gregson studied vernacular languages than he said there are 155 languages and 544 dialects from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. However, the number increases to 700 in census of 1961. This was done to not give Hindi its deserving respect,” said Principal Secretary to CM Manoj Shrivastava.
He was speaking at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sanghralaya on the occasion of “Hindi Fortnight”. Speaking on misery of our official language Hindi by treating it as some regional language, he further said that by using English as the main communication language, Hindi didn’t get its deserving position even after 64 years of independence.
Giving example he said, “National language of England ‘English’ is official language in 54 other nations, similarly French of France is official language of 29 nations where as Spanish is official language of 27 countries. This menace happened because in those nations they gave importance to foreign languages rather than their own regional languages.”
Shrivastava further said the Indians consider English as convenient language for Science, Medicine and Technology and on the other hand considering English not to be suitable for normal communication is not correct. He gave example of Europe where they gave importance to their indigenous languages and they wrote science, medicine in their indigenous languages.
Speaking on the developed side of Hindi he said Indian sociality can be communicated through only Indian languages, it is impossible through Hindi. He awarded the employees participated in Hindi fortnight competitions and asked to increase the participation even more. Manav Sanghralaya observed Hindi Fortnight from September 17 to October 1, 2013 under which various competitions and programmes were organised.
On the occasion, Arun Kumar Shrivastava, Joint Director of the museum, officers-employees and lots of audience was present. The programme was coordinated by Sudhir Shrivastava and Official language officer, Rakesh Mohan Nayal gave the vote of thanks.
