Two Hindi comedy plays were staged here on Thursday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan leaving the audience into whirls of laughter. To observe the tourism year 2015-16 Madhya Pradesh State Tourism and Development Corporation (MPSTDC) organised a theatre festival at Bharat Bhavan. The fest began with staging two comic plays ‘Taj Mahal Ka Tender and Bade Bhai Sahab’.

Directed by Anil Sharma the plays were staged by the artists of Mitra Cultural Society, New Delhi. Questioning today’s situation and poor condition of the society the play highlighted a notion behind corruption. Taj Mahal Ka Tender made the audiences laugh their hearts out.

The play is a social and political satire. It deals with the pressing issue of wide spread Corruption in India. The dramatist has portrayed a situation where Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor, is reigning in today’s times and intends to build the Taj Mahal to commemorate the death of his beloved wife.

He entrusts this task to his Chief Engineers and owing to the deep rooted corruption he waits in vain till his death, for just the tender to pass. Through several hilarious episodes, it showcases the greed, malice and shrewdness of the chief engineers and various other government officials involved.

The bureaucratic machinery along with its infamous RED TAPE comes into action and takes the emperor for a long roller-coaster ride. Whether the Tajmahal is finally made or not, was an interesting thing that was seen by the audiences. The play is full of wit, humour and sarcasm.

The artists on-stage put a fine impression over the audiences and they burst out laughing as the play reached the climax.

On the other hand, Bade Bhai Sahab tells a story of the relationship between two brothers, Kamta Prasad and Samta Prasad. Both live away from home in a hostel for studies. Both brothers try to prove that his way of living is correct that leads to comic situations all through the play. What appeals is the love that the brothers share despite their different outlook towards life. The story is simple and told even in simpler words makes Bade Bhai Saheb endearing. The role played by the two brothers was captivating.

The artists gave vibrancy to the roles that they played with a mixture of compassion and tenderness leaving the audience mesmerised.
