A high level meeting was held at the Bal Bhawan to review and take stock of the progress made in the Smart City project. Gwalior Municipal Commissioner, Vinod Sharma and Mahip Tejaswi, CEO of the Smart City project took stock of the progress made so far and gave instructions to speed up all works related to the Smart City project.
During the meeting, officers, through a presentation gave some new ideas and plans to make the city cleaner and smarter. One of the new proposals was to introduce Smart Sweeping Machines to make the city dust free. In the course of the presentation, the officers agreed that it may not be possible to make the city totally dust free, but emphasized that measures need to be introduced to control dust by covering open areas in the city with broadened roads, cemented pavements and regular sweeping and removal of dust. They added that more than 50 kms of the roads in the city can be cleaned through these modern street sweeping mechanized machines. Mahip Tejaswi, the CEO of the Smart City Project said that these machines will be fitted with the GPS system, so that proper monitoring can be done. The Municipal Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to employ these machines at the earliest so that dust can be controlled.
Another suggestion was to introduce e-rickshaws to reduce the pollution level in the city. At this point the Municipal Commissioner asked those present to think about introducing e-loading vehicles in the market areas, so that the pollution in those areas can be kept under check. The meeting also explored the option of replacing all petrol and diesel vehicles in the Maharaja Bada area with e-rickshaws.
