Help of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan will be sought for voter awareness in Madhya Pradesh. Through it, school students of 17-18 years of age will be motivated to get their names included in electoral rolls if they are 18 years old and if not then understand the process of getting names included. This information was given during video-conferencing with District Project Coordinators (DPCs) of Rajya Shiksha Kendra at Chief Electoral Office here today.
During video-conferencing, all DPCs were asked to apprise school students of the process of getting names included in electoral rolls and obtaining EPIC cards. District Education Officers and DPCs were urged to play an important role in getting names included in electoral rolls. For this, directives were given for organising activities in schools like formation of human chains and holding essay, debate and rangoli competitions. Suggestion was also put forth to organise voter awareness activities.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer SS Bansal informed that Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan has been made partner by the Election Commission for educating and enlightening voters. He said that school children should be motivated with the objective of increasing voter participation in elections. These children will create awareness among their parents and people in their vicinity. He said that voter awareness should also be included in School Chalen Hum Abhiyan. He urged DPCs to take initiative for getting women voters’ names included in electoral rolls.
