Heavy rains fail to deter NVDA, Rly engineers

There was heavy rains at the site where left bank main canal (lBC) had to be crossed under the Ajmer-Khandwa railway line at a site near Sanawad town of Khargone district. looking to the regular traffic on this track it was decided to cross the canal under the track using high technology so to get through it within four to five hours.

Railway had supplied heavy duty special girders and other mechanical equipments to support the railway track temporarily. The Narmada valley development authority (NVDA)engineers and construction agency engineers were also ready with men, machines and material. On Sunday morning when railway and NVDA engineers came here to meet the challenge the heavy downpour put another challenge before them. It was not possible to postpone the pre-scheduled job because the train traffic was suspended for the defined period on Sunday. The meticulous and united efforts could not allow heavy downpour to stop the presheduled programme.

The goal was near to achieve while this report was came into State capital NVDA headquarters. The railway traffic on the track is likely to be normal by late evening on Sunday. Omkareshwar irrigation project will create irrigation potential of 1.47 lakh hectare in Khargone, Khandwa and Dhar district. The canal network of the project has 12.39 KM common carrier canal which bifurcates into 162.95 KM long right bank canal and 64.11 KM long left bank canal. The lBC alone with it’s minors and sub-minors would create an irrigation potential of about 21,000 hectare. The CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in his many past visits to this area in past had repeatedly assured the farmers that state government is committed to provide canal irrigation water of the project in earliest possible time and will leave no stone unturned to complete the canal network of Omkareshwar irrigation project.
