As part of the ongoing Mission Parivar Vikas Fortnight on Wednesday, the District Health Department held an awareness rally to educate the public about family planning methods.

The rally urged couples to space their children, with the suggestion of having the first child two years after marriage and the second three years later, followed by sterilisation.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to promote family planning through awareness campaigns, sterilisation services, and distribution of family planning kits across the district.

ASHA workers are going door-to-door to compile lists of couples interested in sterilisation and informing them about sterilisation camps organised at nearby health centres. Last year, 12,088 sterilisation operations were conducted in the city.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Dr Prabhakar Tiwari said that the importance of newly married couples registering their marriages during the fortnight. The “Nayi Pehel Kit,” which includes cosmetics, family planning information, contraceptive pills, and a pregnancy test kit, is being distributed to encourage responsible family planning.

Sterilisation procedures are available daily at government hospitals such as Civil Hospital, AIIMS Hospital, and others. Additionally, incentives are being offered for sterilisation, including Rs 3,000 for male sterilisation and Rs 2,000-3,000 for female sterilisation procedures.
