In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, the Congress has alleged that Health Minister Narottam Mishra has relations with many companies that manufacture sub-standard medicines. Besides, the Opposition party wished to know from the State Government how many of such companies are there and for how many of them it had (State Government) recommended for World Health Organization (WHO) certificate in exchange of money.
Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief spokesman KK Mishra, while addressing media persons here on Tuesday at party State headquarters Indira Bhawan, said that soon the grand old party would expose a bigger scam than the NRHM scam that took place in the state.
Mishra said, “The incidence of Barwani in that over forty people lost their vision has proved the administrative report tabled in the State Assembly stating that 400 sub-standard medicines were supplied in the Government hospitals of the State between 2009 -14. Congress party directly alleges that Health Minister Narottam Mishra is having relations with all such homeopathic and allopathic companies and these companies are supplying medicines to health ministry at higher rates and in return the health minister is getting huge sum of money as commission.”
Mishra further said that the government should order high level enquiry of this because the issue is directly connected with the lives of the common man. The deeds and acts of the State Government that has gone blind with corruption has snatched the sight of over 40 people and has made them blind for life long, he added.
He said that the medicines suppliers were given orders beyond their manufacturing capacity by overlooking all rules and regulations more over the companies were already suspicious due to supply of sub-standard medicines in State capitals hospitals.
He said, “We demand that the compensation of Rs 2 lakh announced by the chief minister for the victims of Barwani should be raised to Rs 5 lakh and action be taken against the health minister who is directly responsible for the incidence.”
