Another Shakespearial tragedy Hamlet would be staged before the art lovers by the young artists of the city. The play would be staged on January 2 at Ravindra Bhavan Auditorium.

The Madhya Pradesh School of Drama (MPSD) has stepped into another new academic session and the students of the academy are ready to present a new production before the Bhopalites.

The students of the session 2013-14 have prepared a theatrical performance as a part of their annual performance which is staged before the theatre lovers. This time the students have prepared one of the known plays written by William Shakespeare Hamlet –The Prince of Denmark. Translated to Hindi by a renowned Hindi novelist and poet Amrit Rai, the play is directed by one of the faculty members of MPSD KK Rajan.

Notably, there have been many Hindi writers and novelists who translated the work of Shakespeare that includes, Hamlet, Macbeth and many more. Amrit Rai took up the challenge to translate it and he translated the play in year 1963.

He translated Hamlet with a belief that the ability to translate the ideas and the emotions of Shakespeare is a touchstone of the language’s maturity and capability.

The play deals with the struggles and tribulation of Hamlet, the prince of Denmark and the son of deceased King.

One cold night when he returns to the palace he finds out that his father, the King is killed and his Uncle, the king’s brother and present successor of the throne King Claudius had married Hamlet’s

mother.

Recently, the rehearsals for the play are going on with a lot of enthusiasm. Special attention has been paid to the costumes, lighting and the sets.

Moreover, the students are working hard on their body language and the dialogue delivery as these two things are most important to present a Shakespeare act.
