In the State-level hospital of Madhya Pradesh, Hamidia Hospital, the doctors are forced to treat the HIV infected patients without wearing gloves.
The junior doctors claim that they do not get the medicated gloves from the hospital administration, despite having demanded for it several times. A recent terrible incident exposed the height of negligence by all the members of the Surgerical Ward number 5 at Hamidia hospital. On August 27, they treated an HIV infected patient without using gloves and later when the staff came to know about the status of the person, he was left for around three hours without treatment. The patient suffered head injuries caused in a road accident.
After some time, a senior doctor arrived at the department tried to pacify the relatives of the patients and staff members but later went biased and instructed the staff including the junior doctors to file a written complaint with the dean of GMC, HOD of the department and NACO regarding the non-disclosure of the patient’s status regarding HIV infection. When the relatives asked his name he refused to reveal his name and returned. later after the intervention of doctor from Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) center the patient received treatment.
During the ongoing consequences the on duty doctors Dr Shivang Dubey and Dr Shubam Saxena indulged into heated argument with the Community Based Organisatin (CBO) members who arrived after receiving information of the accident of their community member. When Dr Shubham Saxena was asked regarding shortage of gloves, he claimed that there is always shortage of gloves in the department and he too wishes to wear 2-3 gloves, if provided.
