Much to the relief of the residents and business community of Maharana Pratap Colony at City Centre, Gwalior, the DRDO Laboratory situated there will be shifted to the SADA premises.

Earlier, the Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court had directed the authorities to demolish all the private buildings near the DRDO Lab as there is a restriction of constructing any private buildings within 200 meters of defense establishments.

The bench had also directed the civic authorities to inform the court of action taken against the building owners.

The directions came while the Bench was hearing a petition by the defense department on the rampant violations of the stipulations.

It is to be noted that there are hundreds of houses, luxury hotels and business establishments near the DRDO Lab. Despite the owners of these buildings possessing the required documents like registration, electricity and water bills the court had passed the judgment in favour of the DRDO.

Earlier, a delegation of the affected residents and the office bearers of the Gwalior Chamber of Commerce under the leadership of the Secretary, Praveen Agarwal had met Jyodiraditya Scindia and apprised him about the matter. They had told Scindia that hundreds of people will lose their houses and livelihood if the buildings are demolished.

According to sources, Scindia met the Chief Minister, Kamal Nath and appealed to him to provide alternate space to DRDO.

The CM has directed the authorities to provide space for DRDO to set up their lab at SADA.

In another development the Gwalior Police have appealed for public participation in improving the traffic system in the city.

The Gwalior SP, Navneet Bhasin said that the public can aid the administrative machinery in many ways and urged people’s cooperation in issues such as maintaining traffic discipline and following traffic safety measures.
