Opium, Ganja, Doda Chura are supplied from Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh by train and road through Gwalior. 15 districts of the state have come under the grip of drugs peddlers.

Drug trade has spread rapidly in 15 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Consignments of narcotics reach from outside states to the Gwalior-Chambal division of MP border area and then from here the goods are forwarded to other states including the entire state.

Drug trade has been going on for many years from this corridor of Gwalior. To avoid the eyes of the police, smugglers smuggle drugs in different ways. The Crime Branch and Narcotics Department of these districts are continuously active but the smugglers are not being stopped.

Bhopal Crime Branch ACP Shailendra Singh Chauhan informed that action is being taken under the NDPS Act. This year more than 20 smugglers have been arrested and more than two and a half quintals of ganja have been caught. He said that the investigation revealed the supply of ganja from the districts of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

Opium is cultivated in Mandsaur of MP, Jharkhand, Naxalite areas of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Raigad and Andhra Pradesh. Then from there, intoxicants are sent by other means of road including train, vegetable, fruit-filled truck, bus, transportation. In Gwalior Chambal, many times this consignment of drugs has been caught, sometimes hidden in a banana truck and sometimes hidden under some other item.
