Gwalior, Chambal to witness dense fog in next 24 hrs: Met

Far away from the cozy comfort of artificially warmed homes in India’s burger-munching and cola-guzzling metros lives a country ravaged by the absence of basic amenities as evidenced by the fact that two homeless aged persons have been claimed by the weather in the State where the season's death toll stands at seven.

The bodies  found on Sunday morning outside the Mahakaleshwar shrine in the ancient temple town of Ujjain  were conveyed to the District Hospital, police said. One of the deceased was identified as Shankar Baba.

Cold wave conditions began to be experienced on Saturday in the State where the mercury dipped by two to six degrees Celsius and cold winds blew. Damoh was the coldest at 5 degree Celsius. Dew was observed during Saturday night in Bhind and Morena.

"In the past 24 hours, minimum temperature dropped by three to five notches.

The weather is likely to remain almost unchanged over the next 24 hours," a Regional Meteorological Centre

official said. Gwalior and Chambal divisions would witness dense fog in the next 24 hours.  State capital recorded night temperature at 8.6 degree Celsius.

The lowest night temperature was recorded on January 12 at 8.2 degree Celsius in the State capital. Day temperature was recorded 3 degree Celsius below the normal temperature at 21.9 degree Celsius.

The rains received by the city on Friday were due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over Gujarat which resulted in receiving constant humidity. The rainfall was witnessed in several areas on Saturday and Sunday. Sidhi received the highest amount of rainfall and recorded 2 cm rainfall. Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Sagar and Indore divisions would receive hail storm and rainfall in the next 48 hours.
