Annoyed with the Assembly Speaker’s decision not to discuss the no-confidence motion despite having listed it for the day’s proceedings, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ramnaresh Yadav might ask for a day-long special session of the House.
The Governor on Saturday summoned Speaker Ishwardas Rohani and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but only Chouhan turned up. Rohani was in Jabalpur and is expected to visit Yadav once he returns.
Sources said the Governor is taking legal consultations regarding the special session for discussion on the no-confidence motion brought by main Opposition Congress. He has already gone through House proceedings of July 11.
They added that Yadav discussed the issue with the Chief Minister for around 15 minutes. Chouhan is learnt to have put forth the point of view of the Government.
It has been learnt that over a dozen Congress legislators have submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor, to his Principal Secretary, demanding the special session. Earlier, the leader of the Opposition had also complained to Yadav about the bullying attitude of the Govern-ment and Assembly Speaker.
Former Assembly Speaker Shrinivas Tiwari said this was the first time in parliamentary history that the House was adjourned without having discussed a listed no-confidence motion. He stated that the Governor may ask Chouhan to convene a special session, but it still depended whether the Government would comply or not.
