Having failed to get an appointment to meet President Pranab Mukherjee after camping in New Delhi for five days, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ramnaresh Yadav returned to Bhopal on Tuesday.
It was expected that he would soon step down from the office, after the Union Home Ministry advised him so on Wednesday last. The advisory came after an FIR was registered against Yadav in the infamous MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam.
However, he continues in the office till date. He had sought an appointment from President Mukherjee since February 26, but he could not succeed. Yadav camped in the national Capital for the last five days and had sought time to meet the President. However, after failing to get an audience with the President, Yadav returned Bhopal.
Yadav had reached Delhi on Thursday to attend the marriage reception of kin of leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and lalu Prasad Yadav. After his name had come up in the FIR, the Union Home Ministry had advised him to step down from the office on moral grounds.
Barring attending of the marriage function, the Governor spent most of his time in Madhya Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi. He did not meet many visitors. The security guards deputed there were directed not to allow anybody to meet Yadav. Only a few visitors, most of them were lawyers, are learnt to have met the Governor.
Notably, this is for the first time that an FIR has been registered against Governor of any State and the main Opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh Assembly has been demonstrating demanding resignation of Yadav.
Yadav, a former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, was appointed Madhya Pradesh Governor by the Congress in 2011 during the UPA rule. His term as Governor is set to end in September 2016.
