The Madhuri Dixit Nene and Juhi Chawla starrer film Gulaab Gang received poor response in the State capital, as only ardent fans preferred to reach cinema halls.
The movie representing the strong will-power of women and good versus evil Gulaab Gang was released nationwide here on Friday. The casting, strong acting of two idol actresses and direction has received thumbs up by the viewers. But, the music and bold dialogues have disappointed them to an extent.
The film marks the debut of Soumik Sen as a director and also features Tannishtha Chatterjee, Priyanka Bose and Divya Jagdale in important roles.
This is the movie about a strong woman Rajjo (Madhuri Dixit) who fights for the rights of women in a rural village and also stands up for the right and against a cruel politician (Juhi Chawla). Though the gang is called Gulaab Gang, Rajjo wearing a pink saree fight for the women’s rights but yet it is different from the Gulaabi Gang of Sampat Pal.
The Bhopalites said that may be a documentary on women empowerment would have made a greater impact of what this movie has done. On the other hand, Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit’s fans are satisfied that both the actresses have carved down their experience righteously in impressing them.
Whereas, some viewers who were exited to watch the two arc rivals of the nineties sharing the screen space together are disappointed with the concepts of the film. Notably, people have seen Madhuri in strong roles but, this is the first negative role by Juhi Chawla on screen. So, it was a shock for her fans to watch her in this avatar as Juhi usually represent fun loving and a happy-go-lucky girl on screen.
Yet another strong role Madhuri is seen doing taekwondo which is quite interesting to watch. Viewers also commented that the story of the film did not impress them as it was clear from the promos what it is all about.
Released just a day before International Women’s Day the film did not have a good opening and had an average response. The fact that could be appropriate for the cold opening of the film may be that few more women oriented movies like ‘Queen and Revolver Rani’ are all set to make their place in the market. Hopefully, the movie could take a hike in the weekend.
