GPS installed on beat cops' two-wheelers

Published on:

With the aim to strengthen beat system to provide better response to the citizens in emergencies, ninety, two-wheelers have been installed with the global positioning system (GPS). The action was taken after Director-General of Police instructed to install this on the motorbikes used by beat in-charge. GPS installation was done to decrease the response and provide help at the earliest to the victims and complainants.

These vehicles would be monitored from police control room using Automatic Vehicle location System (AVlS) server and based on the locations instructions could be given accordingly to help the victims. Vehicles installed with GPS system across the district would be very useful as these vehicles would provide help to the nearest spot after spotting their location.

Early rescue and relief would be biggest benefit of the system. Other information like route report, halt report and other information related to the vehicle could be traced whenever required and could help the police personnel and officials at police control and in the district to suggest the spot details. In the four wheelers GPS installation already exists and by adding the system to the two wheelers the efficiency would improve and strengthening of the patrolling system would be achieved.

The system would be monitored by senior officials and police control room. Acting on the patterns and conditions the deployment could also made more efficient across the districts. Automatic Vehicle location System (AVlS) is a geographic positioning system that transmits data from a police vehicle to a computer via the Airwave Radio Service.
