Special attention is being paid to strengthen and upgrade power transmission and distribution systems in the State. large-scale works are being undertaken to improve infrastructure as per availability of power.

During year 2012-13, transmission lines were laid in 706 circuit kilometres and high-tension sub-stations of 2186 MVA capacity were set up. Besides, a programme has also been chalked out to lay 1608 circuit kilometer long transmission lines and set up high-tension sub-stations of 3302 MVA capacity. In distribution sector, works are underway for feeder separation, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme, RPDRP etc. For improving quality of power, distribution companies have set up 132 new sub-stations of 33/11 KV capacity during financial year 2012-13. Apart from enhancing capacity of 476 power transformers, 308 additional ones were also installed.

These works have led to widespread improvement in power quality. During year 2012-13, consumers were supplied 11 per cent more power. During this period, peak hour demand of 9,484 MW has been met, which is the highest in state’s history. At present, transmission losses of 3.30 per cent in Madhya Pradesh are the lowest in the country. Availability of transmission system is also about 99 per cent more than norms laid down by Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Similarly, PlF of thermal power stations in year 2012-13 stood at 66.47 against 61.38 in year 2011-12. Thus, about 5.1 per cent increase has been registered in PlF last year. Remarkable improvement has also been ensured in diesel consumption. Its consumption came down to 2.97 ml from 3.62 ml.
