Govt tells Collectors to rein in 'unruly' schools

Published on:

From next academic session, private schools will not be able to exert pressure on students and their parents to buy books and uniform from a seller on the premises or any specific shop. The State Government has issued directives in this regard to all district collectors.

The Government had received complaints that private schools exert pressure on students taking admission or already studying to buy books, uniform and other teaching material from a specific shop. The Government does not approve of this tendency.

Private high and higher secondary schools are affiliated either to CBSE or Board of Secondary Education in the State. The Government has said that private schools use their discretion in selecting books published by private publishers or NCERT or Text-book Corporation.

It will be mandatory for all private schools to display on notice board list of writers and publishers of text-books and their minimum price one month before start of next academic session. This will help students and their parents buy books from open market as per their convenience.

Name of school will not be allowed to be printed on any teaching material. It would be written on school’s notice board that there is no compulsion to buy materials from any specific shop.

Books and materials can be purchased from anywhere. Situation will not be allowed to be built for exerting pressure to purchase books, uniform, tie, shoes, copies etc. from schools itself. Students and parents will be given freedom to purchase books and materials from open market.

Nowhere in the district, pressure should be mounted to purchase books and other materials from any specific shop. The government has directed districts to ensure proper arrangements for compliance of these directives.
