More than a hundred Government school teachers from all the districts of the State staged dharna at Yadgare-e-Shahjahani Park in the State capital on Sunday. The school teachers including contract teachers, adhyapaks and even gurujis staged the protest in support of their long standing demand of equal pay for equal work.

State media in-charge of Adhyapak Core Committee Javed Khan informed that the teachers have resolved a plan of protest for next month. “We will stage protests in the State capital as well as at every district headquarter and divisional headquarter for next 30 days. To avoid any disturbance of studies, it has been decided to protest only on holidays,” Javed informed.

“This round of protests will culminate on July 23 on the occasion of Guru Purnima. If the State Government fails to fulfill our demands by that date, the teachers will understand that the Government does not wants welfare of teachers. After that, instead of raising demands, lakhs of school teachers will work to reverse electoral prospects of the ruling party,” Javed informed.

“The Chief Minister has indicated that the Government will implement teachers demand in separate installments. We reject this and demanded that our demands should be implemented en block as it was done by the Chhattisgarh Government. The teachers know fully well that either it is all or none,” he added.

The demands of the Government school teachers include equal pay for equal work for all teachers, fixation of salaries on the basis of recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission and merger with School Education Department. The teachers have already staged several rounds of protests all over the State in support of their demands earlier.
