Govt should waive farmers' loan: leader of Opposition

Published on:

leader of the Opposition in the State assembly Ajay Singh has demanded from the Chief Minister to waive off loans of 120 farmers who have committed suicide in past four months. He asked to provide Government jobs to one member of each family.

In a statement, here on Sunday, Singh stated that it was shameful that the State government has till date not taken any action in connection with the misbehavior of police personnel in Tikamgarh towards the farmers.

Singh demanded from the chief minister to announce a special package for the farmers of drought hit areas of the State.

He further said that after the police had gunned down innocent agitating farmers in Piplya Mandi of Mandsaur in June, one farmer is committing suicide everyday in the State. In past 124 days, 124 peasants have ended their lives, while 19 others have written to the State government seeking permission to commit suicide.

Singh expressed surprise that only in Sehore, the home district of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, 15 farmers have committed suicide.

This scenario shows grim picture of the situation of farmers in Madhya Pradesh and the incident of Mandsaur suggests as how sensitive Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is, who is son of a farmer.

Talking about Tikamgarh incident, Singh alleged that it is shameful that those police officials who had stripped the farmers in the police station are moving scot free in the society, while the victim farmers are forced to remain indoors.

He stated that the State government had ordered a probe in the incident, but before any investigation could be conducted, Home Minister Bhupendra Singh and State BJP president Nandkumar Singh Ch9ouhan and other BJP leaders have already given clean chit to the police personnel and accused the farmers and local Congress leaders. In such a situation, how anybody could expect unbiased outcome of the probe, Singh questioned.
