Into the election year, the State Congress, following Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's advice, made a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state and alleged that the big fish involved in corruption are being protected.
In fact, corruption has been conveniently overlooked by the government during its nine year rule, the party said. leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, in a statement here on Sunday, said "the big criminals who are generators of corruption are being protected during the BJP rule."
Citing examples of sales tax officer caught red-handed while accepting bribe in the State capital and the demand for Rs 1.5 lakh by a BJP legislator to ask a question in the State Assembly, the leader of Opposition said this was indication enough to gauze the extent of corruption in the State and that those sitting in the government were responsible for facilitating it.
Singh said "the achievements of nine years' of rule of the BJP was that corruption has become a delicacy in the state." He said the way the then Health Minister and now Animal Husbandry Minister Ajay Vishnoi and two senior officials were saved in the anti-tuberculosis drug purchase scam, was prove enough that the BJP government was out to save those who were patronising corruption.
The Government was bringing to book only the small players and was making tall claims of curbing corruption in the State. The leader of Opposition said that without the patronage of higher ups, small employees could never dare to indulge in corruption.
During the past nine years, huge wealth had been unearthed fr om the corrupt employees and officials. However, it was strange that not a single Minister was caught. Instead, those who came under scanner were provided clean chits, he added.
