To help the senior citizens of the city, the Indore police have come up with Good Samaritan, an innovative scheme to help out old-age people.

Under the Police Panchayat a senior citizen service card scheme has been introduced in which Indore police have introduced two different security cards. The first card is silver card and the other is simple card. Both the cards have photograph of the beneficiary along with the address.

Both the cards have different features. The silver card is for those senior citizens who are living alone and the second card is for those senior citizens who live with their family members. The policemen and Nagar Suraksha Samiti members regularly visit these elderly people and listen to their problems.

Under the scheme, the police try to help them out with verifying their servants and also provide them medical assistance.

Besides, under this community policing, Indore police have signed an MOU with the hospitals of Indore wherein the senior citizens will be given concession on all medical services. The concession varies from 10 per cent to 50 per cent.

Till now, more than 15,000 cards have been distributed among the senior citizens in Indore district including all the tehsils.

It is noteworthy that under this police panchayat scheme, a counseling centre is also functioning at DIG office premises.

Here the elderly people are counseled on various issues like dispute with the family members and so on. The retired district judge and senior officers are members of this counseling centre.

Additional SP Prashant Choube told ‘The Pioneer’ that soon the police would enroll the old age home of Indore district and regularly visit the old age homes and will held discussions with the inmates.

SP headquarters Yusuf Qureshi, SP west Indore Vivek Singh, SP east Indore Awdesh Goswami, Additional SP Mhow Pankaj Kumawat and SDOP Mhow Jyothi Umath are  surveying and monitoring the senior citizens welfare scheme in Indore district.
