GMC to decide cases of 25 MBBS students today

The disciplinary committee of the Gandhi Medical College (GMC) would decide the fate of some 25 Munna Bhai’s of 2013 MBBS batch on Monday when they appear before it.  The move follows a High Court order of March this year to reinstate or cancel admissions of these students who were identified by the special task force (STF) investigating to be involved in the PMT scam.

The  GMC had served notices to these students in April and given them 15 days’ time to file replies in their defence. In the notice students were also told about the allegation of fraud against them.  Meanwhile, these students have questioned the timing of the hearing, as it happens on the same day of their examination. Sources said that nearly all admissions are likely to be cancelled.

According to the information received from Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) the scam in 2013 PMT exams revealed discrepancies in photo identity, preferential allocation of numbers, identification marks on answer sheets among others. The MPPEB then cancelled the candidateship of 36 students from the GMC. A total of 439 admissions were cancelled in Madhya Pradesh.

On January 14, MP High Court granted a stay on cancellation of admission, after a petition from the students. Subsequently, they were allowed to attend classes. Interestingly, earlier in February the GMC retracted action against eight students and three have been suspended. “GMC officials refuse to explain why a clean chit has been given to eight students,” said a student of GMC.
