A 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging with the ceiling at her residence at Navjeevan Colony under Chola Mandir police station area on Tuesday. The girl was scolded by her mother for studies.
Police said that the deceased girl, identified as Poonam Vishwakarma, was found hanging with the ceiling and rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
In the initial investigation, it was found that at the time of incident, Poonam was present at home along with her family members in the afternoon and when her mother scolded her for studies, she went inside the room and frustrated over the scolding, she committed.
Later in the evening when the mother found that the victim failed to come out of her room, she went to check her and found that the room was locked from inside and informed her brother who lives in the same locality and rushed to rescue her sister. They broke the door and when they entered she was found hanging.
Her father works with private firm. After preliminary investigation the body was sent for the post mortem and a case under section 174 of CrPC was registered.
