In an innovative initiative, the Kodariya gram panchayat of Indore district, after becoming a fully clean panchayat, has taken up cudgels to make clean and pure drinking water available to the villagers. Two ATMs have also been installed in this panchayat to make pure and cool drinking water.
The first ATM is installed at Panchayat Bhavan and the other is a mobile ATM. Villagers are being provided with clean and cool drinking water at very concessional rates through these ATMs. Nearly 2,000 litres of pure drinking water is being provided to the villagers through these two ATMs since October 9 daily. Pure and cold water is being made available to villagers at Rs 1 for 1 litre, Rs 5 for 10 litres and Rs 10 for 20 litres. The villagers have to insert coin in the ATM to obtain water.
To facilitate villagers, they are being given a recharge card of Rs 150 also. This arrangement contains the card’s cost of Rs 50 and Rs 100 as balance. Through this card, the villagers can obtain 20 litres water for Rs 8. Once the card amount is over, it can be recharged as per need. So far 37 cards have been made.
Initiated by Sarpanch Anuradha Joshi, this scheme is one of its kind in the state. She said that the cleanliness campaign is being launched in all villages led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Our gram panchayat has also become completely clean, she said. Clean drinking water is one of the dimensions of complete cleanliness. This will reduce risk of disease. This scheme has special attraction for women and children.
labourers Guddi Bai, Babita and Amita Rashmi believe that this scheme would prove to be a boon for them. Polluted water is the root of many problems and diseases. The money spent on purchasing water from this ATM is much less than what could be spent on treatment. This scheme will save both money and health.
Every now and then new systems are being developed in the field of drinking water supply and cleanliness in the state. This scheme will prove to be beneficial in making clean and pure drinking water available to improve the overall health of villagers and will also set an example for other panchayats. This unit of clean drinking water at Kodariya village is a joint venture of Prathmesh Enterprises and Gram Panchayat. This scheme is a direct evidence of PPP (Public-Private Partnership)
