A symposium over rights of old-age people organised by Human Rights Commission on the occasion of Human Rights Day was held here on Wednesday at the Administrative Academy. Social Justice Minister Gopal Bhargav presided over the programme, while Home Minister Babulal Gaur was the chief guest on the occasion.
Gaur, speaking on the occasion, said, “In the modern culture people have forgotten the religion of social service, this being the reason that at the place of coming forward for helping old age people, providing them security and fighting for their dignity the people are backing up.” Gaur further said that when lord Krishna came to study in Ujjain from Mathura 5,000 years ago, then he did not come for acquiring letter knowledge but he came for the learning Sanskars. But the modern education has changed. We would have to think that how a good person could be made in the society. Every person should do yagya, tenacity and do donation for becoming a good person. Yagya means good knowledge, tenacity means do duty with full honesty and the meaning of donation is doing social service, he added. Gaur also launched a book cantered on the schemes run for the welfare of old age people published by Senior Citizens Welfare Commission.
Bhargav in his address on the occasion said, “There are two sides of old age peoples’ rights, one is legal while the other is moral. legal would be taken care by the government but the moral side would have to be taken care by the society. It is the moral responsibility of one and all to take care of the old age people. In this perception the ongoing program is relevant.” Bhargav told the officials concerned to implement the laws tailored for the old age people in reality.
